Local History

Echuca Moama's documented history dates back to 1838 with the arrival of the first explorers. Originally  known as 'Hopwood's Ferry' Echuca was renamed in 1854 from the aboriginal 'meeting of the waters'. On the opposite side of the Murray River is Moama, originally known as 'Maidens Punt' and settled some ten years prior to Echuca. More info...

Demographics

Echuca Moama spans the border of northern Victoria and southern NSW, 205 kilometres north of Melbourne. The towns are located at the juncture of the Murray, Campaspe and Goulburn Rivers. Acording to the 2006 census had a population of 11,000 people. More info...
